The problem

Is your Tally data really safe?

Years of vouchers, ledgers and GST returns usually sit in one folder on one PC.

The pen drive

Someone has to remember it, and it sits in the same office as the PC.

A crashed PC

The Tally PC's disk fails, and every company on it goes with it.

Ransomware

A virus locks the Tally folder, and the backup drive plugged in beside it. What to do

A backup never checked

The copy was there, but it would not open when it was needed.

Before you start

Where your Tally data lives

  • Find the data folder. Tally's Select Company screen shows where each company is kept. On many PCs it is C:\Users\Public\TallyPrime\data for TallyPrime, or C:\Tally.ERP9\Data for Tally.ERP 9, but dealers often move it to another drive, so check rather than guess.
  • Back up the whole data folder, not one company. Each company is a numbered folder inside it, and every company and every split financial year comes along.
  • Tally on a server? If other PCs connect to Tally on a server, the data is on the server. That is the PC to back up.
  • Include the rest of the office. The same PC usually holds GST working files, Excel sheets and scanned bills. JS1 Vault backs those folders up in the same evening run.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs by itself

1

Install on the Tally PC

Install JS1 Vault on the PC that holds your Tally data, or the server if Tally runs on one. Or talk to us and we set it up with you, free.

2

Pick the Tally data folder

Add the Tally data folder, and any other folders you want safe, and set the evening time.

3

Get the evening email

Every evening it backs up and checks the copy, and the email tells you it is safe, or tells you and us at once if something is wrong.

The difference

Made for how Tally is used in an office

Tally can stay open

Tally keeps its files open while it runs. Installed on the PC that holds the data, JS1 Vault copies them from a Windows snapshot, so the backup is taken even if someone left Tally running.

Earlier versions are kept

Only the files that changed are sent, and earlier versions are kept. A virus or anyone at your PC cannot change or delete the copies in the vault.

Safe to bring back

The Tally folder comes back into a new folder, such as D:\Restored, never over today's data. Your PC's Windows administrator can do it from the JS1 Vault icon, or our technician does it with you.

Compared honestly

A pen drive, or JS1 Vault?

A pen drive costs less. What you pay for is a copy that is made and checked every evening without anyone remembering, kept away from the office, and safe from viruses.
